The history of lesbianism and the path of those who have been attracted to other women has always been difficult also long. In all the world’s ancient cultures manifested somehow, sexual orientation between females. In Rome, for example, there were public baths for women who, despite being married, they wanted to have sex with other females or to satisfy their lesbian desires with felatoras slaves. There is also evidence of marriage between women.
Because women have been a political minority in Western cultures, the additional designation as homosexual was the development of a subcultural identity among lesbians. So Berlin had a vibrant homosexual culture in the 1920s, and there is even a hymn, Das lila Lied, that lesbians also felt as their own. In 1928, a book titled Berlins Lesbische Frauen («Berlin lesbian women») Roellig Margarete Ruth popularized the German capital as a center of European lesbian culture. Since then the path of lesbians so far has been, in most cases, hard.
